A background in cooking, nutrition or education is a plus but not essential. We want positive, knowledgeable, kind and fun individuals.

KCL Culinary Instructor Job Description

Join Our Team

The culinary instructor will serve as a teacher and role model, teaching key skills and inspiring participants to learn and to cook healthy, inexpensive recipes at home.

  • Teach students the basics of food and kitchen safety, food preparation, and making healthy choices and substitutions when cooking.

    Choose recipes that demonstrate key nutrition, food budgeting, and food preparation lessons each week.

    Assign participants kitchen tasks that allow each individual to gain hands-on practice and improve their cooking skills.

    Supervise participants, demonstrating and encouraging proper technique

    Facilitate class discussions on each recipe or food safety message, allowing students to brainstorm how they might put new behaviors into action and share these ideas and recipes with their peers and family.

    Purchase all necessary food and supplies for each class.

    Submit all recipes, receipts and classroom reports to KCL administration weekly.

    A first aid kit should be carried to every class which contains hand sanitizers, bandaids, antibacterial, plastic gloves.

    Improve student’s social and cultural awareness by exposing them to local & seasonal foods and recipes from other parts of the world.

    Please remember that we are guests and all classrooms should be returned neat and clean. Teachers should sanitize any tables and sink used, before and after the class.

  • You can take on as many classes as you like, one a week or multiple. Most of our classes are on weekdays during after school hours.

    Not available during after school hours? We have remote and flexible projects too.

  • We are in five counties across the Bay Area (San Francisco, San Mateo, Alameda, Marin, Sonoma) and expanding.

    Not in the area? Inquire about our virtual classes or our Together We Cook program where you are guiding on-site teachers remotely.
