Whole Grain Pita Pizza with Homemade Sauce

This pizza is one of our favorite meals you're sure to really love too.

Ingredients

Tomato Pizza Sauce
  • 1 6-ounce can tomato paste
  • 2 Tablespoons water
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ teaspoons onion, minced
Pizza
  • 4 whole grain pitas
  • ½ cup tomato pizza sauce
  • 1 ½ cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • ½ cup bell pepper, chopped
  • ½ cup zucchini, sliced
  • 2 mushrooms, sliced
  • fresh basil leaves

Instructions

Tomato Pizza Sauce
  1. Combine the tomato paste, water, olive oil, salt and onion in a small bowl.
  2. Mix well. Set aside
Pizza
  1. Heat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Shred the cheese.
  3. Chop the bell peppers and slice the zucchini and mushrooms.
  4. Spread 1-2 Tablespoons of tomato pizza sauce on top of each pita, using the back of a spoon.
  5. Sprinkle the cheese over the sauce. Place the basil and vegetables evenly on top.
  6. Place the pizzas on a baking sheet and put them on a middle rack of the oven.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.

Notes

Variations to Try

  • Add any veggies you like
  • Add diced ham, cooked chicken or shrimp
